Check Out This Chart for When You’ll Get Your Income Tax Refund

Those of you expecting an income tax refund this income tax filing season are in for good news. We can predict almost to the day when your check will arrive. Have a look at the below to see when your refund will arrive depending on the time you file.

1. How Did the Government Shutdown Affect My Income Tax Refund?

Who can forget the longest shutdown in our country’s history? Most people. Those of you who filed during that time may see a delay in getting your tax refund. Not to worry. It is on the way. Best of all, the tax reform begins this year and is the first time you will see the actual impact of the law.

2. But My Income Tax Refund May be Smaller

Yes, we have seen reports showing that income tax refund checks are coming out smaller this year. This is because the less taxes you pay, the less you overpay. Refund checks are given because you overpaid, not because the IRS felt generous. Those of you in states with income taxes will notice that you may not be allowed to deduct them on your federal income taxes. Those of us lucky enough to live in Texas or similar states have nothing to worry about on this front.

3. When is My Income Tax Refund Coming?

This is the money question. You taxpayers who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) may have your forms delayed. This is because the IRS has begun to take closer looks at these credits, given how badly they have been abused in past years.

Still impatient? You may use the IRS’s own Check My Refund tool found here. You will need to have your Social Security number, filing status (single, married, etc), as well as your exact refund amount to get their estimate.
