What is the Meta for Business Security Scam?

In short, you may receive an email saying that your business page has been disabled. It follows:

Hello

We reviewed your account and found that it still doesn’t follow our Community Standards.

We regret to inform you that, in commitment to user safety, your account is scheduled for removal due to serious case concerns.

You can appeal this decision within the next 24 hours.

Then there is a button to appeal.

FIRST OF ALL, DO NOT CLICK THIS BUTTON.

It then follows:

Case #-XXXXXXXX. This message was sent to at your request.
Meta Platforms, Inc., Attention: Community Support, 1 Meta Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025
To help keep your account secure, please don’t forward this email.

How This Scam Actually Works

This scam can get you one of two (or both) ways:

1. You click on the button and get a ton of malware delivered to your device.
2. Additionally, you respond to the email and give the scammers more fuel. It is highly likely they will ask you for a payment to resolve the issue in the form of a wire transfer, gift cards, or other shady form of payment.

Rest assured, your page has not been disabled. You may simply login to it using your usual methods to confirm.

How to Avoid the Meta for Business Security Scam

Simply don’t respond to the email. We actually manage several Meta for Business pages and received this same scam email for all of them. You can delete, or preferably, mark it as a scam and/or junk with your email provider.
