6. Veteran’s Identity Theft
These scammers use veterans’ information to apply for government benefits and even to open a line of credit. Scammers often call veterans claiming the VA needs to update/confirm their personal information. At other times, someone claiming to be from the VA may call with a wonderful job opportunity for veterans. Once a social security number, bank account, etc is given up, scammers get to work.
SOLUTION: If you get a call out of the blue from the VA, hang up and report them. The VA returns calls but rarely makes them, as they prefer to communicate via mail.
