So-called pension advisors contact veterans with an offer to receive additional unclaimed benefits contact vets. They offer wonderful deals such as additional disability benefits, additional pension benefits if you meet a certain criteria, in addition to a host of other offers. The scam works well given the ever-changing nature of resources available to veterans. They ultimately end up losing by giving away sensitive information. In some cases, veterans may lose their entire pensions.
SOLUTION: If you want to see if you are eligible for more pension or other benefits, contact the VA yourself. Don’t give out your personal information over the phone, email, regular mail, or any other method.
