Must Read Scams 2017: 6 Ways Scammers Are Targeting Veterans

1. Vet Support Fund Phone Calls

This veteran scam seems like an above the board phone call because it’s looks like it’s from the Veterans Choice Program, a new, legitimate program for vets. Its purpose is to allow vets a choice when they have been told to wait for over 30 days for a medical facility. Scammers set up a phone number nearly identical to the one of the VCP. They often only change one number in the official one. Vets call in or are called by the fake number and are prompted to leave their credit card information to receive a rebate. The card is charged. The vets never receive a dime.

SOLUTION: Do not give sensitive information over the phone. Hang up and dial the actual Veterans Choice Program at 1-866-8198. Better yet, click here to sign up for the VCP yourself.
