Our team at B&J Bookkeeping & Taxes have been following all the latest laws and policies with the Trump administration. The new investment plan for children is now active, and we will share these 5 things you should know about the Trump Account for Kids.
1. Learn About the Trump Account for Kids
We recommend doing some reading before you actually apply on the official site. We have this article when the program was first announced when it was announced. The IRS also has a section that covers the program found here: www.irs.gov/trumpaccounts
Did you know? Approximately 3.6 million babies were born in the United States for 2025 and may be eligible for these accounts? This is down about 24,000 from the previous year. Source: PBS
2. Download the App for the Trump Account for Kids
You can either go Apple Store or Google Play to get the app. Or you can also visit the official Trump Accounts for Kids site to get a QR code. Once you download the app, you will be prompted to sign in or register for an account.
3. Download and Fill Out Form 4547
This form is required to establish an account for your eligible child. You may download the form here and have to answer questions such as:
- Child’s name, address, birth date, phone number, etc.
- The SSN for the child as well as your relationship to them.
- You must also check a box allowing the IRS, Treasury, and their agents to acknowledge and disclose that this account has been created.
As always, it is against the law and a perjury to incorrectly fill out and file this form. Use a bookkeeper if you need help with this.
Did you know? About 6 million children are already enrolled in this program and 1.4 million have qualified for the initial $1,000? Some of the initial $1,000 accounts were set up as soon as July 4, 2026. Source: Yahoo News
4. Ask For an Enumeration at Birth Form
This form allows you to apply for a Social Security Number for your child after they are born, and you may do so from the hospital. Many of these children were automatically enrolled in the Trump Account. Those of you about to give birth or considering having more children between now and 2028 should keep this in mind.
5. Keep An Eye on the State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF
This ETF is also known as SPYM and is what the initial $1,000 will be invested in. This ETF follows the S&P 500 Index and has a current expense ratio of 0.02%. The Year to Date Returns have been over 9% so far in 2026, over 21% for one year, over 76% for 3 years, and over 84% in 5 years. No news on if this will change or if your additional contributions must go to this fund.
